Pakistan Navy Tracks Indian Surveillance Aircraft Amid Rising Tensions
ISLAMABAD – May 5, 2025:
The Pakistan Navy successfully detected and monitored an Indian surveillance aircraft, P-8I, last night, according to security sources. The move comes amid escalating tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors following recent developments in Indian-administered Kashmir.
Security officials confirmed that the Indian aircraft was closely tracked while operating near Pakistani maritime boundaries. “The Pakistan Navy remains vigilant and fully prepared to respond effectively to any act of aggression,” a senior defense source stated.
The incident occurred against the backdrop of growing regional tension following a deadly attack on tourists in the Pahalgam region of Indian-administered Kashmir on April 22, which resulted in the deaths of 26 people. India has blamed Pakistan for the attack — an allegation strongly denied by Islamabad.
In a briefing to political leaders, Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace. “Pakistan is a peace-loving nation. However, any aggression imposed upon us will be met with a strong and decisive response,” he said.
Following the attack, the Indian government suspended the Indus Waters Treaty and ordered Pakistani nationals to leave the country immediately. In response, Pakistan closed its airspace to Indian flights and called for an independent international investigation into the Pahalgam incident — a proposal that remains unanswered by India.
Pakistan’s stance has received support from several countries, including China, Türkiye, and Switzerland, which have backed Islamabad’s call for impartial investigations and expressed concern over India’s escalatory rhetoric.
The situation remains tense as both nations continue to exchange diplomatic and military signals, raising fears of further escalation in the already volatile South Asian region.
