KARACHI: Anti Smuggling Organization (ASO) of Customs Enforcement Collectorate Karachi raided at the manufacturing site of Golden Food factory in SITE area Karachi and recovered 16 tons smuggled and crushed betel nuts.
The raid was conducted under the supervision of Deputy Collector Head Quarters ASO Inam Ullah Wazir.
According to the Customs Officials huge quantity of crushed betel nuts found in the shape of packed HUM TUM Sweet Supari, ready to be supplied to wholesale shops.
The value of the seized goods is estimated to be 10.5 million.FIR has been lodged against two owners of the factory and further investigations in progress.
It is pertinent to mention that on directions from FBR Head Quarters, a continuous crackdown was launched against the Menace of Smugglers of spurious, substandard and smuggled betel nuts to prevent the loss to National Exchaqour worth Billions in the shape of Customs Duty and Taxes.
In the duration of previous four months Customs ASO teams tasked for uprooting the networks raided at least 17 Sweet Supari Factories and warehouse in which recoveries of thousands of tons of betel nuts were made worth in millions.
