KARACHI: In a recent interception near Mochko Check Post, the Customs Enforcement, has recovered smuggled Betel nuts, Tires and other goods worth more than Rs16 million from the secret cavities of a passenger Bus.
According to reports, special orders were issued by Chief Collector Customs Enforcement South Yakoob Mako to Collector Preventive Karachi Usman Bajwa and Additional Collector Faisal Khan for taking strict action on smugglers.
Acting on the instructions, the team of Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO), while searching a passenger bus coming from Baluchistan to Karachi near Mochko Chowki, recovered Betel nuts and tires worth more than Rs 16 million. The smugglers were transporting the goods hidden in the secret cavities of the bus.
After seizing the smuggled goods, the driver of the passenger coach was arrested and a case was registered. According to the reports, Chief Collector Enforcement South has also issued the instructions for continuous crackdown against the smugglers of goods smuggled in passenger buses and trucks via Baluchistan.
After dumping the smuggled goods temporarily in the warehouses situated around the Yousuf Goth Bus Terminal in Baldia Town Karachi, the smuggled goods are being supplied to all the markets of Karachi using more than 1500 Suzuki and Shehzor trucks.
The goods include cloths, tires, Betel nuts, spices, Chinese salt, electronic equipment, Iranian food and beverage tin pack items, cosmetics, medicines and various chemicals.
The network of smugglers is causing loss in billions to the exchequer in terms of duties and taxes.
